Meet our Horses
Our horses mean the world to us! They provide comfort, experience, excercise, and unconditional love. Check them out today!
About our Herd
Our equine staff is purposely selected according to size, movement, and disposition to meet the specific needs of our clients, whether working astride or from the ground. They have gone through intensive training to work with children and adults who have physical, mental, and emotional challenges. Each horse goes through a 30 day trial period where they are put through a series of tests and tasks, which they must pass before being accepted into the program. On average, only 1 in 10 horses that come in on trial end up becoming a therapy horse.
Garfield
Born 2008, a Haflinger, 14.3hh. Being of the draft breed, he can handle adults as well as children in the ring. He also hails from Ohio and carries the WHF brand where he was also trained and purchased for HEARTS TRC.
“D”
Born in 2001 in California. D is 16 hands tall and has been a lesson horse, trail horse, and show horse in his previous careers. D loves that his current job as a therapy horse allows him to get so much people time. He enjoys all the attention everyone gives him. D is owned by the Green family and is on loan to Hearts TRC.
Prince
Prince is a registered American Paint Horse. His registered name is White Water Mark. He was born in 2005. He has been a 4-H horse, a show horse, and a trial horse. Prince is on loan to Hearts TRC from Dougherty Farm in Mays Landing. He has stepped right up into the role of therapy horse.
Yankee
Yankee (registered name Yankee Possessed) is a 2001 Standardbred gelding. Standing 16.3 hands, he is the biggest member of the Hearts' herd! While he may be a big boy, Yankee is a gentle giant and is very sweet and quiet to ride and handle. Yankee is the son of a Hambletonian winner, which is the most prestigious race for trotters, and was bred at Yankeeland Farm in Maryland. After an unsuccessful harness racing career, Yankee went to work for the Amish pulling a buggy. When he retired from this career, Yankee was rescued by the Standardbred Retirement Foundation (SRF). Hearts adopted Yankee from the SRF in March 2022.
Bitty
Lil Bit Barlet “Bitty” is a registered American Quarter Horse. Even though she is not normally a therapy horse, she has gone through all the training required to be one so that she can act as a substitute when one of the Hearts horses are sick or injured. Bitty has traveled the US with her family and has collected quite the fan club along the way. She has already been successful in many other careers such as lesson horse, show horse (both English and Western), and trail horse, so it is no surprise that she is a wonderful therapy horse. Bitty gave birth to a filly, Heaven, in 2015. She is an excellent mother
and would always make sure her mischievous daughter stayed safe. Her maternal instincts make her a great therapy horse since she always seems to know if her riders need slow and steady, calm and relaxed, or a bit of a challenge.
Miles (Wild Smile)
Miles (Wild Smile) is a 15.2 hand Standardbred gelding that was born in 2010. Miles was a very successful harness racehorse and won over $300,000 during his racing career. Hearts adopted Miles from Trot-Trot Standardbreds in June 2022. Miles is extremely friendly and loves people, which makes him a good fit for both mounted and ground lessons.
